Expo rolls into town
Holidays with more family time
WANT your kids to unhook from their technology willingly?Well look no further than family caravanning says the organiser of this year’s Queensland Outdoor Adventure and Motoring Expo event director Bob Carroll.
He said a recent study had shown the popular hobby gave kids real life experience, helped them disconnect from technology and gave them an appreciation of their local environments
“The new growth market is definitely young families with children,” Mr Carroll said.
“They are buying more campers and camper trailers because it’s a really good family holiday, kids get off the electronics and get to know each other a bit better.
“We’re also seeing a lot more caravans come onto the market with bunk beds in them to accommodate families.
“We know it’s hard for the kids to get away from technology so some of the camper vans are equipped with TVs so the family can still hook in and watch movies at night.”
He said the study found people who purchased a new caravan or camper trailer used it within a three-hour drive of where they live 90 per cent of the time.
“This is good news for local tourism and good news for families because they are low cost holidays with a high level of satisfaction,” he said.
The Queensland Outdoor Adventure and Motoring Expo will open at the Toowoomba Showgrounds on Friday, running until Sunday.
Mr Carroll said more than 1600 people attended last year’s Toowoomba event, travelling in from the west and south to take in the range.
“This has been an annual event for some time and it really pulls an audience from as far away as Roma and Charleville, down to northern NSW,” he said.
“You can save yourselves a trip when you come to an event like this - you can see 40 retailers in one place.”
