HOCKEY: Past High has reminded the A1 women’s competition that it is not to be counted out.

The side climbed into third position courtesy of a 4-1 victory over second-placed Red Lion, a result that has lifted the team’s confidence as the finals start to loom.

“This builds confidence. We know we can score goals and it’s about knowing that we can win these sort of games,” coach Bernie Fox said.

“We know we can put it to the top teams and make them beat us instead of letting them beat us.

“The last time we played Rangeville we didn’t concede a field goal. Our defence has always been good and it’s starting to get a bit more experience now.”

Fox said the most pleasing aspect of the victory was the standard of play his side was able to reach.

“They went up another level,” he said.

“They got back to playing the way they can play. They haven’t played like that for a while.

“Even though we’ve had a few key players out, we’re starting to cover those players.

“The fact they played well is most pleasing. They executed really well and had no short corners against them.”

The Past High men didn’t have as much luck, going down 6-0 to Red Lion.

Rangeville secured the Giltrow Shield with a convincing display against Norths.

First up in the men’s clash, doubles to Callum McCurleyAult and Ryan Wagner were enough for Rangeville to secure a 4-1 victory.

The women’s encounter was one-sided, with the ladder-leaders coming away with a 10-1 win over Norths.

Katie Wollstein scored five goals and Brooke Thompson finished with a hat-trick.
