RACING: Former long-serving Toowoomba Turf Club secretary Allen Volz and Sky Racing caller Anthony Collins are among five new faces set to help steer the future of Clifford Park racing.

Volz and Collins will be joined by USQ academic and Toowoomba horse trainer Gerard Betros, Toowoomba accountant Andrew Catlow and Toowoomba businessman Jason Ward on a new-look TTC board.

The five topped a ballot of 10 candidates for five vacant committee positions when postal votes from TTC member’s were tallied on Tuesday.

Volz, Collins, Betros, Catlow and Ward will join incumbents Kent Woodford (chairman) and Allen Gee on the club board after it is officially ratified at the club’s annual general meeting on August 29.

The election of five new committee faces followed the recent resignations of panel members Robbie Dare, Ken Bullen (vice chairman), Bob Frappell (club treasurer), Lisa Frappell and Kevin Dixon.

“I’m very excited by the make-up of the new board,” Woodford said yesterday.

“I think the members have given us a capable group moving forward from a business, racing and community perspective.

“Allen Volz in particular brings a lot of experience, racing knowledge, industry passion and business acumen back to the club with him.

“I’ll look forward now to us working on continuing to move the club forward and meeting our next challenges.

“The new board first must be ratified at our annual general meeting on August 29 and then we can plan our first meeting together, probably in early September.”
