Young guns bid for title

-

TEN young auctioneers will travel to Brisbane to contest the title of 2019 ALPA Queensland Young Auctioneer.

Held by the Australian Livestock & Property Agents Association, the competition will kick off at 9am today (Friday, August 9) at the Ekka.

The competition will be opened by Queensland Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington.

ALPA will celebrate the 30th year of the Queensland Young Auctioneers Competition and there is no doubt this year will provide another fantastic display of young auctioneering talent.

One of the association’s main objectives is to provide professional development and education programs to its members.

ALPA CEO Andy Madigan said the longevity of the Young Auctioneers Competition was testament to the quality of training and education ALPA provides and the focus it shines on the future leaders of the industry.

“These young professionals are given a chance to showcase the hard work they have put into developing their auctioneering skills,” he said.

“Each competitor attended an auctioneer’s school held in Rockhampton earlier this year, where several experienced auctioneers gave feedback on how to improve their skills and speech pathologists provided auction-specific tips related to voice conservation and care.

“Based on industry experience and a strong selling background, a panel of three judges has been selected to identify this year’s winning auctioneer.

“They will be looking out for the competitor’s diction, values, voice, manner, presence and unique style in order to create a memorable performance worthy of claiming the title.”

Mr Madigan said the beauty of the competition lay in its focus on the future of the industry.

“It provides a unique opportunity to celebrate the passion these boys have for their industry and their dedication towards developing their rare talent, whilst also encouraging them to continue in their efforts,” he said.

Competitors will vie for the title of ALPA Queensland
