10 THINGS TO DO THIS WEEKEND

1. LANGUAGES AND CULTURES FESTIVAL

WHEN: Tomorrow, 10am-4pm WHERE: Queens Park

ONE World Many Faces is the theme of this iconic event. It brings together over 100 community groups, service organisati­ons, businesses and partners within our region to support and encourage a sense of belonging and community harmony.

The festival will provide guests with an array on internatio­nal food and market stalls, over 100 music and dance performanc­es, health and wellness markets, arts and crafts, languages, schools and community displays .

2. NEW INDOOR MARKET

WHEN: Today, 8am-noon WHERE: St Luke’s Church Hall

COME along and browse the offerings at Toowoomba’s newest market.

There will be an official opening and ribbon cutting at 8am and a free jumping castle for the kids.

There will be plenty of stalls and food available for sale.

3. RECORD SALE

WHEN: Today, 9am-3pm

WHERE: Phat Burgers, 513A Ruthven St

ROCK Star Vinyl is holding a Pop Up Record Store and there is plenty to choose from if you’re looking to expand your vinyl collection.

There will be hundreds of awesome records for you to choose from including Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and heaps more.

4. COMBAT TRAINING

WHEN: Today, 7.30am-10am WHERE: Brothers League Club oval, 175-187 Hursley Rd

IF YOU’RE looking for a physical activity with a difference, why not try combat training with Tyr’s Warriors?

Tyr’s Warriors is an interest group that provides an outlet for full contact fighting with real steel armour and weapons.

There will be sword and shield, buhurt, pro fight practice and armoured practice. Entry is free to members and $5 for non-members.

5. STUDENT ART SHOW

WHEN: Today, 10am-4pm, tomorrow 1pm-4pm

WHERE: Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery, 531 Ruthven St

THE Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art recognise and promote excellence in senior visual art education throughout Queensland’s state and non-state schools.

This regional exhibition displays the creative talents of senior high school visual art students from the Darling Downs and South-West Queensland region for 2019.

Admission is free.

6. HANDS FOR THE HOMELESS

WHEN: Today, 6pm

WHERE: Bon Amici’s, Margaret St

ENJOY some amazing local music while doing your bit to help others less fortunate at the 10th annual Hands for the Homeless event.

All money raised will be donated to the Domestic Violence Advocacy Centre.

A swag of talented folk will take to the stage: the Venice on Fire Duo, Kathleen Turner Overdrive, Through the Looking Glass, Second Story, Belinda Tiggell, Nicholas Tam and Matthew Banner

Entry is $10 and people can also show support by bringing donations of non-perishable food, clothes and linen.

7. BURPEES FOR MATT

WHEN: Today, 8am-10.30am WHERE: Slamfit, Caton St, Toowoomba

“BURPEES suck but cancer sucks more,” is the message from Slamfit Toowoomba members Sam and Tim, who will do 1000 burpees each for a good cause.

The gym is doing its best to support a 22-year-old member diagnosed with cancer with the 2000 Burpees for Matt event. Bring some money along, buy some raffle tickets and help support a community member in need.

8. BOOK WEEK FUN

WHEN: Today, 10am-noon

WHERE: Just Crazy Bargains, Grand Central

SOMETHING magical is happening at Just Crazy Bargains in Grand Central!

Join the fun at Platform 9 3/4 where kids can create their very own golden snitch to take home.

Don’t forget to come dressed in your favourite Book Week Character for your chance to win a Best Dressed prize.

This year’s Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book Week theme is ‘Reading is my Secret Power.’

9. VOLCANO TO VOLCANIC

WHEN: Tomorrow, registrati­on from 11.30am

WHERE: Picnic Point

CHOOSE between a 10km run or a 6km walk/run at the inaugural Volcano to Volcanic “I run for beer” fun run, a not-for-profit event to celebrate exercise, fun, getting together and beer.

The event kicks off at Picnic Point and finishes at Volcanic Brewery where you can try some delicious craft beers and a range of local food vans.

All are welcome to this family-friendly event and funds raised will go towards the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

10. MINI PET EXPO

WHEN: Tomorrow, 9am-1pm

WHERE: Bar Wunder, 424 Ruthven St

ORGANISERS are hoping to make this a regular monthly event featuring seven vendors, a rescue group/charity and a local vet surgery.

It will be a mini-market with dog and pet vendors selling products for you and your pets. Bring your dog along for a lovely morning out.
