Claiming the scalp of the Red Lion men has proven a tough task for Toowoomba teams in 2019.

This past weekend was no different, with the minor premiers pulling out a 5-3 victory over Norths.

Despite the result, Norths will take plenty of heart from the fact they were able to push their opponents right to the end.

Things didn’t go to plan early for Norths, as Corey Guse and Craig Smith slotted two goals in the first quarter to hold a handy lead.

It wasn’t until the third term that Norths were able to get on the board through Carter Mogg, before Red Lion quickly responded to push the lead out to 4-1.

Mogg scored again in the final quarter, but it was all in vain.

Red Lion had to pull out all stops in the A1 women, before eventually scraping home 3-2 over Norths.

The team at the bottom of the ladder came out firing, and took a 2-0 advantage through Phoebe Mogg and Emily Payne.

That’s when Red Lion powered into action.

Kelly Davey got her team on the board in the 52nd minute.

They levelled things up in the 59th minute through the stick of Julia Gannon, before Jasmine Koch completed the comeback just two minutes later.

The Newtown men made it back-to-back wins with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Rangeville.

It took 28 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, before Zach Sinton nabbed two field goals.

Kane Bradford got Rangeville back to within a goal with 16 minutes to play, before Matthew Siebuhr put the result beyond doubt.

Rangeville had greater success in the women’s competition however, recording a 4-0 victory.

Tatum Stewart got things underway in the fourth minute, and added another in the second quarter to seal a comfortable win.
