Mens sides enter into finals series
AUSSIE RULES: The final five for the Allied Pickfords Cup is set and teams are ready for their shot at glory.
With the final round of men’s fixtures throwing up no surprises, it will be left to Goondiwindi, Coolaroo, Warwick, University and Highfields to battle it out for the flag.
Highfields opted against making the trip to Goondiwindi, forfeiting it’s fixture against the Hawks.
While getting the four points, Goondiwindi’s David O’Toole was denied the chance to secure the leading goalscorer title, with the forward finishing a goal behind Warwick’s Ben Heppell, who led the way with 74.
Coolaroo fine-tuned its post-season preparations with a devastating 19.22 (136) to 9.1 (55) defeat of South Toowoomba.
The Roos led at every change, producing 41 scoring shots for the afternoon in a one-sided affair.
University moved into fourth spot and ensured it would host its elimination final against Highfields following a 234-point victory over Chinchilla.
The win meant that the Cougars leapfrogged the Lions on percentages.
Ryan Hopkins finished the afternoon with a bag of 10 majors, with 15 University players kicking a goal.
Despite a tough season, South Burnett finished on the best note possible, picking up its third win of the year after downing Toowoomba 20.23 (143) to 6.9 (45).
UNIVERSITY GETS BACK ON TRACK
After suffering just its second loss of the season last weekend, University got back on the horse with a comfortable defeat of South Toowoomba.
Felicity Ash finished with a game-high five majors in her team’s 14.12 (96) to 5.4 (34) defeat of the Bombers.
University was in full control from the outset, with accurate kicking helping it to a 27-point advantage at the main break.
They went on with it in the second half, booting eight goals to three to run out 62point winners.
South Burnett gave the defending premiers a scare at Rockville Oval in one of their best showings of the season.
Despite not winning a game up to this point, the Saints managed to hold leads at the end of the first and third terms.

against the Toowoomba Tigers, going down 11.7 (73) to 8.6 (54).
Jemma Whitney had a day out with the boot, kicking six goals for the Tigers, while Hayley Ellison and Chloe Cocks kicked three majors apiece for South Burnett.
The final round of women’s fixtures will feature the same match-ups, ahead of the finals series which begins on August 31.
