FOOTBALL: While South West Thunder waits to learn its 2020 fate and the future direction of the NPL, it has the chance to finish 2019 on a positive today when it travels to Brisbane for its final match of the season.

Thunder will be looking to end its year of struggle on a high against Brisbane City at Corporate Travel Management Stadium at 5pm.

South West is coming off an 8-1 thumping from Eastern Suburbs which left it languishcould ing in the relegation zone.

The loss leaves Thunder in second-last place on the ladder and they will be eager to avenge their last-start savaging against seventh-placed City.

NPL clubs are currently waiting on further information of a proposed competition restructure next season.

Three proposals were outlined at a Football Queensland meeting last week.

A consultation process has started with clubs given a time frame to respond.

Under the first proposal, the NPL and QPL competitions be combined next year into two conferences – Maroon and White.

Under the second proposal, junior teams would be separate to the senior structures and play in a combined NPL and QPL competition next year. The two conferences would be played under similar guidelines to the first proposal during a 22-week season.

A third proposal covers the NPL girls’ competition.

■ THE South West Thunder women are on the road today to face Logan Lightning at Cornubia Park from 5pm.
