Good numbers of cod and yellowbelly at Leslie Dam

- WITH KRIS GEORGE FROM FISH ’N’ BITS BAIT & TACKLE

CRESSBROOK DAM

GOOD reports this last week with some great fish being caught.

The late afternoon bite has been by far been the pick of the bite times.

Slow rolling plastics and spoons tight to the bottom has been the technique of choice.

Out from the main ramp and Bull Creek arm of the lake has seen the fish school up in good numbers off the main points.

LESLIE DAM

Leslie just keeps on producing.

The yellas are well and truly on the move and very actively feeding and it’s only going to get better as the warmer weather approaches.

Again, this week with the water being so clear, the lure fisherman are having some amazing success.

Out from the dam wall, the yellas are schooled up in good number.

Zx blades and Jackall Mask vibes have been the lures of choice.

The cod fishing has heated up with good numbers being landed during the week.

Casting or trolling one ounce spinnerbaits have been the go-to.

For the bait anglers, saltwater yabbies have been the best option.

SOMERSET DAM

With the last of the tournament running last weekend, the fish can finally have a break from all the boat pressure.

The area is still fishing very well and will improve the warmer it gets.

Again, out from the cabins on the Kirkleagh Glats and Happy Clappers have been the main areas.

20 and 30 gram spoons like the Hot Bite Ganger Banger and Palms Slow Blatt have been the lures of choice.

BJELKE PETERSEN DAM

This lake hasn’t had a mention for some time due to low water levels, but it has really turned on this past week for the anglers.

The old creek bed between the two main ramps is holding the majority of the fish.

Early morning and afternoon there has been a good edge bite.

Jackall Tn60s and Spinnerbaits being the go-to, for deeper fish.

Plastics like the Gulp Minnow Grub and 1/4oz blades have worked wonders on these fish.

LAKE AWOONGA AND MONDURAN

With the water temps getting up into the 20 degree range it can only mean one thing - big barra and lots of them.

Both these lakes fish relatively similar - big bays and lots of timber.

Finding good numbers of bait where the wind has pushed the fish into is a good starting point matching the food source that the barra are feeding on.

The Jackall Squirrel 79 Hanktune and Lucky Craft Pointer have been the go-to lures on these lakes for some time.

COOBY DAM

Still closed to all water based activities.
