HOCKEY: Past High knows it has a task on its hands if it wants to progress to the grand final of the A1 women’s competition.

Coming up against a strong Red Lion outfit, the thirdplaced side needs to be at its best to keep its winning streak alive, and book a grand final spot against Rangeville.

Past High made it fivestraight wins after downing Newtown last week, and coach Bernie Fox said they would take a ton of confidence into tonight’s do-or-die encounter.

“We’re full of confidence at the moment, but we know that we’ll need to be at our best,” Fox said.

“We’re getting very close to the level that we need to be at, and another game should top us off nicely.

“Last week I was happy with the fact we had multiple goalscorers, which is a good sign. They were hungry for it and went for it.”

Fox said they would employ a similar style in trying to take down Red Lion.

“We’re hoping for good ball movement and lots of energy,” he said.

“We want to be nice and patient around the top and safe at the back.”

A grand final berth would be particularly special for the club, having spent years out of the championship picture.

“This is what we aim for,” Fox said.

“It does mean a lot to us and would be great to be there. We haven’t made one for a few years, and this is our best opportunity for a while to win one.

“We’ve had good back-up this season, something we haven’t had in years.”

The men’s preliminary final pits Newtown and Rangeville against each other, with the chance to meet Red Lion in the decider on the line.

Newtown comes into the fixture following a 3-0 loss to Red Lion, while Rangeville’s last-second 2-all draw with Norths was enough to see them through.
