FINALS DAY A FAMILY AFFAIR
Touch clubs set for gala season end
TOUCH FOOTBALL: There is certain to be plenty of family celebrations and perhaps a few disappointments when the Toowoomba Touch Association 2019 grand finals are played tomorrow.
Premierships in all grades will be decided on a gala day of touch football at Kearneys Spring Sporting Complex.
Lower grade games start at 11.30am.
Touch football is a renowned family sport with grades and levels of games catering for all ages and generations which will be on show during tomorrow’s season-enders at Kearneys Spring.
Generations of Sharks touch football players will take to the fields in multiple divisions.
The Bowtell family members and Sharks club players Dave and his daughter Paige are in for a busy day.
Dave and his son Jasper play together in the men’s D-grade final with Paige also playing in a lower-grade final before picking up the whistle.
Dave and Paige have another big assignment at 3pm when they referee the women’s Agrade final between Roosters and Saints.
Both Dave and Paige have just returned from a successful carnival at the Junior State Championships where both were upgraded in the referees system to a Level 4.
Other families from Sharks touch club playing throughout the day include the Campbell family — dad Dave and sons Dougal and Finn.
Brothers Riley, Jacob and Tyler Madden all play for Sharks in the B-grade under-16 grand final.
The Lisle family round out the Sharks’ large family affair with brothers Greg and Brett playing alongside Greg’s son Josh in the B-grade final.
Today’s games also feature current Australian and state players and recently returned World Cup referees Luke McKenzie, Aaron Searston and Matt Waters.
