Steers continue to dominate

ROMA

CATTLE numbers continued to ease, decreasing by 1401 to 4536 head at the Roma store sale.

Cattle were drawn from a wider supply area and a good buyer panel was present and all were operating.

Steers continued to dominate the yarding and the overall quality of the yarding was good, with quality lines selling to firm demand. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg improved from 5–20c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg increased from 13–19c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed eased by 6c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg eased from 5–10c/kg.

The majority of the medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg increased from 2–20c, while the medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg declined from 1–13c/kg. Grown steers increased from 11–23c/ kg.

Heavy weight three score cows improved by 4c, while heavy weight four score cows saw improvemen­ts of 5c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed or background sold to 305c to average 290c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed sold also sold to 305c, averaging 294c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed made to 297c to average 290c/kg.

The largest sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers sold from 254c to average 229c, while medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold from 253c to average 246c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed sold from 242c, to average 241c/kg.

The largest number of medium weight grown steers sold to a top of 289c to average 269c, with a good sample of grown heifers under 540kg selling to 269c to average 247c/ kg. Medium weight three score cows sold to 229c, averaging 218c, while medium weight four score cows made to 245c to average 244c/kg.

Heavy weight three score cows made to 233c to average 225c and heavy weight four score cows sold to 242c to average 242c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 278c, averaging 257c/kg.

WARWICK

NUMBERS increased by 203 head to 1327. Mixed quality young cattle dominated the selling pens, and only a handful of heavy grown steers and bullocks were penned, along with a larger number of cows. The usual panel of buyers was present and operating across all classes. Drought-affected young cattle received limited support.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 12–23c/kg less. The better quality medium weight yearling steers to feed and the trade averaged 10–15c/kg dearer, and heavy weight yearling steers to the trade also received very strong support. Light weight yearling heifers averaged 18c cheaper, while the medium weights to the trade averaged 10c/kg better.

Medium weight plain condition cows to processors or restockers averaged 10–15c/kg dearer, and good heavy cows experience­d a small improvemen­t in price.

A handful of vealer heifers sold to local butchers at 260c to average 251c/kg. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 257.2c to average 230c, and poor quality lines averaged 187c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to the trade made to the occasional 322.2c, and the feeder classes averaged 290c and made to 310c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to the trade made to 319.2c to average 311c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers mostly sold around 185c with some to 225.2c, and poor quality lines averaged 140c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 228c, and local trade lines made to 298.2c to average 268c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to the trade made to the occasional 319.2c, and feeder classes averaged 154c/kg.

A couple of heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 318.2c, and the occasional bullock made to 330.2c/kg. Medium weight two score cows returning to the paddock made to 202.2c to average 188c, and slaughter lines also averaged 188c and made to 198.2c/kg. Good heavy cows averaged 234c, with the occasional sale to 245.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 279.2c/kg.

TOOWOOMBA

NUMBERS reduced by close to 100 head to 546 head penned and, apart from a few pens of well-presented classes, the overall quality of the young cattle was mixed. A small selection of heavy grown steers were penned, along with a fair sample of cows.

The usual buyers were and operating. Most classes sold to a firm to dearer trend, with light weight yearling steers to restockers 7c/kg dearer.

Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed gained from 5–8c/kg. Yearling heifers generally sold to fair demand for the quality penned. Heavy grown steers to export slaughter averaged 5c/kg dearer. Cows improved in price from 1–5c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 259c and made to 289c/ kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 281c and sold to 290c, while heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 286c and made to

290c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to the trade sold to 245c to average 212c, and restocker or background lines made to 220c to average 196c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 219c, with the better lines averaging 248c, and sold to 262c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling heifers to the trade averaged 275c, with sales to 289c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export processors averaged 318c and made to 325c/kg.

Medium weight two score cows predominan­tly averaged 183c, while some well bred lines made to 224c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to the occasional 244c to average 226c/kg. Heavy bulls sold to 258c/kg.

DALBY

NUMBERS reduced by 522 head to 4,464 at Dalby.

A large panel of buyers was present and all were operating.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed received strong demand for the quality penned, and heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged7c/kg dearer.

Yearling heifers generally sold to strong demand. Cows gained from 2–4c/kg, with plain conditione­d classes improving the most.

BIGGENDEN

BURNETT Livestock and Realty’s meatworks and store sale on Monday drew a yarding of 1763 head.

Cattle were drawn from Bucca, Monduran, Bundaberg, Goodnight, Yandaran, Lowmead, Takilberan, Wandoan, Miriam Vale, Moore Park, Mundubbera, Proston, Woolooga, Ubobo and all local areas.

Due to having insufficie­nt numbers of bullocks yarded, there is no quote available.

Two and four tooth xrossbred heifers from Childers sold for 286c/kg and realised $1710. Two and four tooth red brangus heifers from Goodnight sold for 273c/$1288. Six tooth brangus cross heifers from Gayndah sold for 273c/$1338.

Two tooth charbray heifers from Degilbo sold for 272c/ $1279. Six tooth brangus heifers from Biggenden sold for 274c/$1494. Brahman cross cows from Gayndah sold for 238c/$1330.

Charbray cows from Gin Gin sold for 241c/$1350.

Brahman cross cows from Bundaberg sold for 239c/$1353.

Grey brahman cows from Gayndah sold for 235c/$1405.

Crossbred cows from Woolooga sold for 235c/$1368.

Brahman cross cows from Wilson Valley sold for 237c/ $1418.

Most weaner steers sold from 190c-230c with the plainer types selling from 140–180c.

MURGON

NUMBERS were back to 700 in Murgon on Tuesday. Better conditione­d export cattle and feeders sold to firm rates while restocker cattle values continue to ease. Heavy bulls sold to $2.59/kg and realised $2250. Bullocks topped at $2.78/kg and $1430.

Cows over 500kg topped at $2.34/kg averaging $2.08/kg. Cows 400–500kg sold to a top of $2.20/kg.

Lighter cows under 400kg topped at $1.57/kg. Export heifers sold to $2.50/kg. Cattle were drawn from Mundubbera, Paradise Dam, Mt Perry, Gayndah, Nanango, Kingaroy, Kilkivan and locally. About 477 charbray steers from Mundubbera sold for $1290 at $2.70/kg. Local droughtmas­ter steers weighing 436kg sold to $2.52/kg to return $1100.

Two pens of angus steers from Goomeri sold for $2.98/kg returning $991 at 332kg and $895 and 300kg. Hereford steers from Proston weighing 330kg sold for $857 at $2.59/kg. Santa weaner steers from Gayndah sold for $2.50/kg and $742. Euro cross weaner steers from Hivesville sold for $2.49/kg for $745.

At 393kg droughtmas­ter heifers from Merlwood sold to $985 at $2.50/kg. At 360kg brangus heifers from Gayndah sold to $2.40 c/kg to return $864. Braford weaner heifers form Mt Perry sold to $2.26/kg and $627. Droughtmas­ter weaner heifers from Goomeri also sold to $2.26/kg and $570.
