THE dust and energy has settled on another successful Nebo Cutting Show competition.

Show secretary Lisa Bates said 224 runs were made over the three mid-August days of the Isaac Regional Council Nebo Cutting Show, held at Nebo Showgrounds

“Big scores and huge nominations were the order of this year’s show,” Lisa said.

The event kicked off with 18 entrants contesting the Isaac Regional Council $15000 Novice, taken out by Regan Lyons riding Little Blue Tapt Dancer, achieving 75 points, and taking several other placings in the event

Other classes held on Friday included 19 entries in GW Industrial Open NP, won by Mark Hinman on Tanami Katt (74), and the first round of the Nebo Rural Snafflebit Futurity saw 14 four-year-old horses line up, with the class round taken by Meg Dash and U Drive Me Crazy (145).

“This is our ninth year holding this futurity and we are proud that it has become a very successful event on the calendar, we were just one horse short of holding a final again this year,” Lisa said.

11 herds passed through the arena as part of Saturday’s classes, starting out with the Millec Electrical Rookies. Demi Bettini came out on top with a 74 on board Jays Boontown

The SJ Welding Novice Non Pro was won by Kayla Warrian on Mr Django (74). The Liberty One Steel Mackay $5000 Novice was another big, tightly fought class, with only four points separating 1st and 5th place. Ian Bush emerged triumphant with 74 on This Cats Got Style. Kayla Warrian and Mr Django won the BHP $15000 Non Pro.

“Our largest event for the weekend was the Rod Pearson Mechanical Stockmans Snaffle bit with 22 riders,” said Lisa.

“This event is always really well supported by our local community, with first place going to Sam Galea on Amaroo Poker Face.” (73.5)

Sam also won 2nd place, with 73 on Docs Highcard. Rebecca Agius came 3rd on Oak N Peptos (72.5).

“To round off the night’s official competition we saw the second round of the Futurity horses compete for the title,” Lisa said. The event was won by Ben Parker on Daddys Destiny (286). One of the weekend’s entertainment highlights was the Saturday night Bareback Cutting

“After the official competition ends on Saturday night, Nebo is renowned for everyday people transforming into all sorts of characters to compete in the Bareback Cutting.

“As normal the rules were simple — there are no rules, just be bareback!” Eight riders competed in an array of costumes, under the watchful eye of AAAA Bareback Judge Brett Ullrich. Ben Hinman was the outright winner, and awarded the best dressed.

“This event has become one of the highlights of Nebo Cutting with many thrills and spills entertaining the crowd, it also lets everyone unwind after the big day of competition and lets everyone just enjoy riding their horses.”
