Key stakeholders pitch hub proposal
THE FEEDBACK WE HAVE RECEIVED SO FAR HAS BEEN GREAT...

THE PUSH for a Glenholme Park Sports and Community Hub gained momentum yesterday.
Key stakeholders met with Member for Toowoomba South David Janetzki and Opposition Sports and Racing spokesman John-Paul Langbroek to discuss the proposal and how best to move forward.
Glenholme Park Sports and Community Hub director Joe Hannant said support for the hub had been over-whelming and key stakeholders were hoping to move forward.
“The feedback we have received so far has been great and the support for the concept over-whelming,” Hannant said.
“Now we’re looking at funding models and how we can move forward.
“We have 20 acres here to develop and our goal is turn it into a multi-purpose facility.
“League, netball, bowls, basketball, indoor and outdoor facilities – something the entire community can support, utilise and enjoy.
“We think we have a unique concept that everyone can benefit from.”
With the population of Toowoomba’s western suburbs expected to rise to 30,000 by the year 2050, Janetzki sees great merit in the proposal.
“Social services and infrastructure like this will be essential to residents in Toowoomba’s western suburbs in the coming years,” he said.
“What they’re proposing is a great model – catering for multiple elements of the community not just sports – and there is great opportunity to develop the land here.”
Speaking ahead of a discussion at Glenholme – the current home to Brothers Rugby League Club – Langbroek praised the group’s initiative.
“The fact they (stakeholders) have a plan is admirable,” Langbroek said.
“It’s easy to talk about these things, but having a plan is a step in the right direction.
“I like the community aspect of the proposal as well.
“Our communities are not interested in hearing about one off specific facilities any more.
“Moving forward, it’s important we work to ensure all elements of a community can benefit from facilities like the one proposed here.”
