Statewide seminars ready to explain strata industry reform

-

PROPERTY owners will have a chance to learn more about proposed changes to strata industry law in Queensland at a series of free education seminars hosted by Smart Strata and foundation partners Archers the Strata Professionals.

Archers the Strata Professionals partner Grant Mifsud said strata law experts Jason Carlson of Grace Lawyers and James Nickless, the Legal Counsel for MaxSoft Group, will explain law changes expected to be introduced to state parliament in 2020 during information sessions held on the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Cairns and Brisbane.

Mr Mifsud said the proposed legislative changes are likely to deal with modernisation of procedural matters in strata communities and provisions addressing areas of common dispute such as pets, smoke-free buildings, towing of vehicles, fines for by-law breaches, insurance and building defect management.

"If you’re wondering about what issues are affecting the strata industry in your region, this is an opportunity to come along to these informative education sessions," he said.

"An open forum will follow encouraging audience interaction to discuss transition provisions and how these changes will ultimately affect you.

"There will also be local suppliers on hand during the networking sessions to keep you up to date with the latest product and service innovations."

The series starts on the Gold Coast on September 28 with a seminar at the Mantra Legends Hotel at Surfers Paradise from 9.30am to 11.30am.

The next seminar will be on October 12 at Caloundra Events Centre on the Sunshine Coast from 9.30am to 11.30am.

The series then moves to North Queensland with seminars at Rydges Southbank Townsville on October 23 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm and on October 24 in Cairns at Double Tree by Hilton from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

The seminars conclude in Brisbane on October 30 at Moda Events Portside from 6pm to 8pm.

Mr Mifsud said body corporate by-laws and legislation can be complex, but seminars such as these provide the opportunity to make many issues simpler.

"Through these seminars we try to focus on providing quality education to the strata community on the key issues," he said.
