POSTLE GIFT GOAL UP AND RUNNING
Pittsworth pro-run meet passes second-year test
An ambitious goal to install the Arthur Postle Gift as Queensland’s premier pro-running event took another stride forward at Club Pittsworth last Saturday.
The second running of the Arthur Postle Gift meet was given the thumbs up by competitors and officials after defending champions Max Mason and Dianne Waight stole the race-day honours with scintillating feature victories.
Mason (pictured) took out the $5000 Gift with Waight successful in the $5000 “Crimson Flash” Women’s 75 Yards.
The Arthur Postle Gift (75 yards) concept was hatched last year as a tribute to former Pittsworth sprinter and world record holder Arthur “The Crimson Flash” Postle.
Gift committee member Greg Quinn said organisers would continue searching for an optimum race date but the event has met the expectations of officials in its first two years and was beginning to gain broader interest.
“We are going to review our date for the event in what is a busy time of the year,” Quinn said.
“We could possibly push it back a few weeks to the start of October but it will be only a minor change to a day otherwise gaining in outside interest.
“We’ve had really positive feedback from all the athletes and Queensland Athletic League officials about our facilities, and it was very pleasing to see some new faces and teams amongst our increased race entries this year. “Saturday was well supported by some club teams from the north and south coasts.
“The day was topped off by great back-to-back wins to Max and Dianne against what was stronger competition and some good prize money was won by them and other race winners on the day.
“There has also been some good uptake on social media to the event with people from Victoria taking advantage of the Gift’s live stream.
“Our goal is to make the Arthur Postle Gift Queensland’s number-one pro running event and we’ll continue building next year towards that.”
