Take your drug and shove it

Toowoomba man found with cannabis up bum

WHETHER or not he was told where to shove his drugs was not readily explained, but this Toowoomba bloke was found with 15g of cannabis in his bottom.

Obviously, Joshua Aaron Hogan is not one for carrying a wallet and was found with the hidden stash “in his butt cheeks” when searched by police on July 4 last year, Crown prosecutor Shontelle Petrie told Toowoomba District Court.

“After some prompting, he admitted the green leafy material was cannabis,” Ms Petrie said.

The 26-year-old had been a passenger in a car which had “the distinct smell of cannabis” when it was pulled over by police on a Toowoomba street, she said.

Police had then gone to his home and conducted a search which turned up another 5g of cannabis in clip seal bags, a small amount of the drug in a bowl in his bedroom, a minute amount of methylamphetamine in “wash bags” along with straws, scissors, scales and a bong for smoking the drug.

However, the most serious offending arose from a search of Hogan’s mobile phone on which was found text messages relating to the supply of drugs including three points of meth for $150 on June 29, last year, and offers to supply cannabis, Ms Petrie said.

Defence barrister David Jones, in sentencing submissions, said certain of the facts read to the court needed “fleshing out”.

He said the drug supply message found on his client’s phone was about a month old and that his client had actually been acting as the “middle man” in the chain of supply.

Noting his five pages of criminal history, Judge Deborarh Richards warned Hogan that he had to get away from drug use or risk going to jail.

“And you’re not a particularly big person so I don’t imagine jail would be good for you,” she told him.

Telling Hogan he was being given “one last chance”, Judge Richards sentenced him to 12 months in jail but ordered he be released immediately on parole.
