Wilsonton Nine murder case adjourned again

NINE people charged with murder arising from the death of Toowoomba mother Debbie Combarngo have had their respective charges again mentioned before the city’s Magistrates Court.

Police claim 37-year-old Ms Combarngo had been struck with metal poles, a golf club, a knife and a hammer inside her Wilsonton unit in May last year and charged nine people with murder.

Police claim each of the group had travelled to the unit complex by taxi that day and that each had been in the unit at the relevant time.

None of the nine accused who include Joshua James Lingwoodock, 33, Rhianna Jade Fing, 29, Ty Peter Fing, 23, Ashley Aaron Fing, 25, Christine Maree Hall, 34, Jana Leigh Hall, 28, Rhonda Ann Hall, 29, Lynn Fay Jean Anderson, 26, and Shiralee Fernando, 30, were required to be in court for the mention but each was represented by their respective solicitors.

None of the nine have as yet been required to enter any plea to their respective charge.

Solicitor Claire Graham (Bouchier Khan Lawyers), for defendant Ty Fing, told the court a submission to the prosecution to have certain witnesses cross examined at a pre-trial committal hearing had been sent but not accepted.

Ms Graham asked for an adjournment to re-assess the defence situation.

Solicitor Shane Haugh (Munro Legal), for Rhiana Fing, made a similar submission.

The court has previously heard that the logistics of having nine defendants on trial was a difficult proposition and that the Toowoomba courthouse could have trouble accommodating nine defendants in one court.

However, it is envisaged that any hearing might have to be held in Brisbane where there are courts that accommodate such a large number of accused.

Magistrate Graham Lee remanded eight of the nine defendants in custody and adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on October 28.

Rhianna Fing remains on Supreme Court bail.
