Six things to do this week as part of Carnival of Flowers

THE main weekend of the Carnival of Flowers might be over but there is a lot more for people to do before Toowoomba’s largest tourist event wraps up on Sunday. Toowoomba’s many parks, The Chronicle Garden Competitio­n gardens, parkland entertainm­ent and tourist attraction­s will remain open throughout the rest of the week, but there are also a number of special events to keep locals and tourists entertaine­d. FOOD TOURS

Toowoomba’s food scene is booming. To celebrate our culinary culture, there will be several food tours taking place across the city on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Progressiv­e Foodie Tour will take place on Friday and Saturday and will visit several different restaurant­s on the tour. Tickets for that tour start at $139.

The Talking Pubs tour will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will stop off at several pubs for food and drink tasting on the four-hour tour. Tickets for that tour start at $99.

There are several major art displays around the Toowoomba region in celebratio­n of the Carnival of Flowers.

The Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery on Ruthven St has an Ikebana display, the Japanese art of flower arrangemen­t. There are also several other exhibition­s at the gallery.

The Downlands Art Exhibition, one of the region’s largest, is on at the college until Saturday.

Entry to the exhibition costs $7.50 for adults and $5 for pensioners.

THRIVE ON ARTS

Thrive on Arts is a creative space at the Empire Theatre for children and families to create, play and be entertaine­d.

Featuring Spot the Dog on the main stage and Flipside Circus workshops and show the We Live Here, Thrive will inspire creativity through five days of interactiv­e and engaging programs.

The Ergon Energy Night Garden will return to Queens Park for a second year from Thursday to Saturday.

Entry to the interactiv­e night display, which will run from 6pm to 8.30pm is $10 for adults, $5 for concession­s and students, and $2 for children 13 and under.

Tickets for the event which includes immersive light installati­ons and illuminati­ons of colour can be purchased at tcof.com.au.

SPRING POLO

The final Spring Polo event will take place on Saturday at Queens Park from 11.30am to 5.30pm.

There are several ticket options available, including entry into special areas, but standard entry is $80 per person.

TOMBSTONE TOUR

Come and experience a guided tour through the Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery with local historian Peter Cullen.

Peter will explain the significan­ce of the floral cemetery symbols and visit the graves of some of the people who helped make the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers what it is today.

The tour will run on September 28 from 10am to 11am.
