Harristown and St Joey’s take bronze
St Joseph’s College and Harristown State High School have produced Toowoomba’s solitary medals at the Champion Basketball School of Queensland competition in Logan.
An unblemished 5-0 run from St Joseph’s was cut short by eventual division three boys champions Trinity College in the semi finals.
However they were able to recover, claiming a 31-26 win over Somerset College to take home the bronze medal.
St Joseph's College middle leader of sport Deb Newton said it was a strong recovery from the side as they made the most of the week away.
“This is a great competition for both the boys and girls’ teams with teams travelling from places like Cairns, Emerald, Mackay and Bundaberg to compete,” Newtown said.
“The students enjoy travelling away and staying as a team to play.
“Our students are grateful to the college to allow us to be part of this terrific competition and hope that we can participate through our Excellence in Basketball program for many years to come.”
Harristown also came away with a bronze medal in division four after a 37-28 defeat of Ambrose Treacy College.
Previous to that, the Hawks enjoyed a good run through to the semis, winning four of their five pool games, before going down by a narrow margin to Alexandra Hills SHS in the semi.
Toowoomba Grammar has taken home a ninthplaced finish in the championship boys division, after defeating Hillcrest Christian College in the play-off 82-72.
They found themselves on the lower end of the draw after going down narrowly to eventual silver medallists Cairns State High School in the crossover fixture by just eight points.
They won two of their three pool games to start the competition, including an 11-point defeat of competition winners Ignatius Park College.
St Mary’s College finished the tournament in 11th place in division two.
Their play-off against St Columban’s College came down to the final seconds, before St Mary’s was able to close out a 59-57 victory.
In girls division three action, St Joseph’s took out an eighth-placed finish after falling to Matthew Flinders Anglican College by two points in their play-off.
St Ursula’s College finished a spot below them in ninth, after edging out Northside Christian College by a point.
