THE organisation appointed by the Queensland Government to coordinate charitable donations as part of the Queensland Fires Appeal has put the call out for several specific items Stanthorpe residents need after the fire.

Just weeks after bushfires devastated parts of the Granite Belt, GIVIT has called on good Samaritans to donate new and quality pre-loved goods and items to help affected communities.

A GIVIT spokesman said the online charity now had hundreds of specific requests from front-line services helping families and residents as they recovered and rebuilt.

“Requests through GIVIT include furniture and kitchen appliances for damaged residences near Canungra, water tanks, warm clothing and refrigerators in Stanthorpe, and linen for affected residents near Peregian Beach,” a GIVIT spokesman said.

“All bushfire-affected communities are also urgently requesting grocery and fuel vouchers, to alleviate financial pressures associate with the bushfire recovery compounded by severe drought.

“Since GIVIT launched online its Qld Fires 2019 appeal on September 7, 11,500-plus items and services have been donated and received by those in need, from bottled water to baby onesies.

“More than $56,500 has so far been donated to GIVIT, and will be used to help stimulate local economies by purchasing items, wherever possible, from local providers.”

Requests include gardening equipment for a shed burnt in Stanthorpe; laptop for a single mum experiencing family issues, affected by the Stanthorpe fires; appliances, furniture and solar panels for a Stanthorpe man living alone with his dog; a water tank to make a residence liveable in Stanthorpe; a voucher for hay and corn feed for a Stanthorpe farmer; diesel testing equipment for a small business severely affected in Stanthorpe; bedding and winter clothes for a property affected by smoke and dust in Stanthorpe; and grocery and fuel vouchers.
