Fest puts spotlight on history
160-year celebration at woolshed
VISITORS to the Jondaryan Woolshed celebrated 160 years of pastoral history at the four-day Spring Heritage Festival.
Jondaryan Woolshed general manager Rebecca Pope said the anticipated event was a huge success, with families enjoying the affordable and action-packed program featuring traditional demonstrations, Aussie food and lots of family-friendly fun.
“Our animal nursery was a big hit, with baby animals attracting lots of cuddles from young visitors,” Ms Pope said.
“Volunteers and exhibitors from across the region put on another epic tractor and machinery display, shining the spotlight on our region’s rich pastoral history.”
Performers from the Australian Great War Association Queensland put on an impressive and authentic display of memorabilia in the bullock arena.
“A highlight of the festival was the 100 year celebration of the Woodleigh Cheese Factory. Tom and Pam Dare welcomed visitors, sharing rare memorabilia and heart warming stories about their family’s contribution to the pastoral history of the Darling Downs,” Ms Pope said.
The festival evening program featured a buffet dinner with local singer and songwriter, Amanda Faulker.
“To everyone who attended the festival, to our volunteers and supporters – thank you. As we remain in the grip of a devastating drought, your support provides a small injection of funds into our museum and regional community,” Ms Pope said.
“Please continue to support our regional tourism across drought affected communities. We need it more than ever before.”
