Fingers crossed we all hear the ‘Viking Clap’

-

I’M not a big fan of the Canberra Raiders Viking Clap.

The Raiders’ version annoys me just a little because they stole it from Iceland – who made the clap famous at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

In fact I’d even say the Raiders Clap is almost as annoying as though damn vuvuzelas – the stupid horns that assaulted our ears during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Nothing would make me happier than to hear the Raiders Clap on Sunday, though.

I want to hear the clap echo around Sydney’s ANZ Stadium after the game on Sunday because it will mean the Raiders have downed the Roosters.

I’ve always supported two teams in the NRL – the mighty Melbourne Storm and whoever is playing the Broncos.

More recently though I’ve added a third team – whoever is playing the Roosters.

And before you ask - yes that includes Manly.

I back Melbourne all day every day and whoever is playing the Broncos and the Roosters.

Nick Politis hit out at his club’s critics recently.

The Roosters chairman said critics of the club were simply jealous of the talented players and quality coach they had at their disposal and he’s right to an extent.

It’s a pretty damn good list and there’s quite a few players I’d like to see in Storm colours.

Every fan is envious of other clubs to an extent though.

Jealousy is not the reason people don’t like the Roosters though – I for one don’t like the Roosters because when the going gets really tough – the Roosters get the cheque book.

The Roosters have a track record of poaching big-name stars from other clubs with Cooper Cronk, James Tedesco, Angus Crichton and Luke Keary prime examples.

And yes I know a lot of clubs poach talent where they can, but when was the last time the Roosters really gambled on a young star?

I feel like the Roosters are of the belief that they deserve more credit for what they’ve done like it is something special. So right now I’m crossing my fingers and trying to will a Raiders win into existence.
