Small business signs $1m deal with energy giant

-

A ROMA business has signed a $1 million contract with Senex Energy to supply and install gauges in natural gas wells across the Surat Basin.

Huracan Pty Ltd, which has been operating out of Euthulla since 2012, services the region’s natural gas industry and has now locked itself in as part of the Roma North operation.

The business, run by Jon and Katrina Hollingworth, will provide instruments and indicators of well performance that help Senex to produce gas.

Mr Hollingworth said their business had steadily grown and the agreement meant they would be able to maintain jobs for the eight locals employed.

“Senex has been fantastic to work with, they are community focused, which is wonderful for the Roma region,” he said.

Senex started a 110-well drilling program on its Roma North and Project Atlas natural gas developments in June. The first 10 wells on Roma North have been drilled, with Huracan’s equipment installed at the bottom of the wells.

The other main components of the Roma North development, a gas processing facility and 5km pipeline, have been completed and are operating.

Senex managing director Ian Davies said the partnership with Huracan built on its work with other Roma businesses.

“The company favours local suppliers of goods and services where they are competitive on price and have the capability to do the work safely,” he said.

“The Huracan contract is a great example of the natural gas industry working in partnership with a local business.

“Everyone benefits, from Huracan employees to local suppliers, while Senex benefits from leading technology.”
