Hitting off for Legacy

- GLEN MCCULLOUGH glenm@thechronicle.com.au

THE tradition continues next month when the region’s golfers and Legacy supporters step up for a time-honoured cause at Toowoomba Golf Club.

On Friday, November 8 organisers are aiming to host 120 players at the Middle Ridge course for this year’s Legacy Toowoomba Charity Golf Day.

The day has already received the generous backing of 31 businesses which have donated $100 each to get the fundraising day off to a flying start.

Toowoomba Legacy president Ian Mackenzie, golf coordinator for Legacy Jock Crocombe and TGC member and army reservist Geoff Skinner are busy putting the final pieces in place for a fun day of golf for a worthy cause.

“There is approximately 500 widows and 11 children being assisted by Legacy in some way and days like this are vitally important in helping us maintain that support,” Mackenzie said.

“We thank Toowoomba Golf Club for supporting us in our fundraising on the day which is open to the public.

“We particularly encourage military personnel to come along and be part of the day.”

Crocombe said the day includes a host of prizes, raffles and the auctioning of a helicopter simulator ride at Oakey Army Aviation Centre.

“Geoff Skinner has been working hard on behalf of the club and Legacy to help make the day a success and has already secured 31 $100 donations from various businesses.

“There is also a Legacy fundraising day at North Toowoomba Bowls Club on November 10 and it would be great to get as many people as possible supporting both events.

The golf event is a two-person Ambrose. Cost is $60 per player. To book contact Geoff Skinner on 0412 898 442.
