Rain impacts round of Harding-Madsen comp as local teams struggle

- SEAN TEUMA sean.teuma@thechronicle.com.au

A rain-effected weekend put a premature halt to a number of Harding-Madsen Shield fixtures across the Toowoomba and Ipswich regions.

Wet conditions swept across south-east Queensland, forced a number of fixtures to be called off without a ball being bowled.

Despite the abandonment of four fixtures, both University and Western Districts were able to take part in games against tough Ipswich opposition.

At USQ, University came up against Northsiders in a game reduced to 35 overs-aside.

After being sent in to bat, Uni was only able to muster 7-123, with the visitors reaching the target within 15 overs to claim a decisive eight-wicket victory.

Travelling to Laidley for a 25-over match, Western Districts found themselves under the pump with the home side belting 178 runs from their allotted overs.

In response, Wests started solidly enough, however were unable to maintain consistent scoreboard pressure, with Laidley dismissing them for 100 runs from 20.4 overs.

The abandoned fixtures at the weekend were South East vs Highfields-Railways, Northern Brothers Diggers vs Central Districts, Brothers vs Southern Districts and Lockyer vs Metropolitan — Easts.

Four games are set to feature in Toowoomba this Saturday, with Highfields-Railways hosting Western Districts, University welcoming South East, Northern Brothers Diggers playing host to Lockyer and Brothers travelling to take on Metropolitan-Easts.

Southern Districts will be the only local team on the road, with a trip to take on Central Districts.
