Plenty of cod, yellowbelly on the hook at Leslie Dam

- WITH KRIS GEORGE FROM FISH ’N’ BITS BAIT & TACKLE

Cressbrook Dam

STILL good reports coming from our local lake.

The bass are still schooled up in reasonable numbers out from the main ramp wide off the deeper points.

These deep fish have reacted well to heavy spoons like the 30g Palms slow blatt and 5/8oz rigged plastics fished tight to the bottom.

Leslie Dam

Again this week Leslie just keeps producing an amazing amount of fish - both cod and yellowbelly.

With the water being at a great quality even with the low water levels, this has been a positive for the lure fisherman. Casting larger spinnerbaits and mumblers to the deeper laydowns on the edge of the creek bed has been a great technique for targeting the larger cod.

The yellowbelly have well and truly been on the bite, with the shore based anglers having some great sessions late in the afternoon - saltwater yabbies being the bait of choice.

For the lure anglers, the bite will just get better as the temperature rises.

Jigging Zx blades or Jackall Transams have proven yet again to be the stand out lures.

Somerset Dam

Still one of our most consistent lakes.

The fish have spread out all over the lake.

The southern part of the dam from Bay 13 to the Spit is holding the majority of the fish. The morning sessions have been the most productive with the warmer weather shutting down the fish during the day. Trolled hardbodies like the Smak range have caught their fair share of fish while the fish have been reasonably spread out on the deeper flats.

Boondooma Dam

The edge bite was a real stand out over the last few weeks as the water temperature rises. Casting deeper jerkbaits like the Jackall 79 Squirrel has been the stand out lure along with spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits.

Areas like Leezagangs Ledge, the hump out from the wall and barbers pole are holding good numbers of fish once the heat of the day kicks in. Plastics, spoons and metal blades have been getting good reactions from the fish.

Lake Monduran

Lake Monduran really turned it on midweek with the lead up to the full moon.

The night bite was the pick of the times with good numbers of fish being caught. Again the Jackall Hanktune 79 and a natural 5-7 inch plastic was the lure of choice for most. Working the shallow bays and tree lines the wind has been pushing up into, will be your best bet.

Finding where the water warmer is another great way of finding the active fish and bait.

Lake Awoonga

Our second closest barra impoundment is another lake that is coming back to its glory days.

With the temperature on the rise and consistent winds this lake has been producing some great fish, fishing very similar to Monduran.

Shallow flats with trees have been holding good fish. Soft vibes like the Jackall Tranzam or Samaki Vibelicious is a great way to cover all depths in the water column. Jigging these lures can be a very successful technique once the fish are located.

Gold Coast Offshore

Fishing is still very good on the coast this past week with the magical weather.

The shallow reefs like the 24 and 36 fathom marks are producing good numbers of snapper and pearl perch while bottom bashing.

The further reefs have produced dolphin fish and cobia when float lining with live or dead baits.

Also, trolling a smaller skirt or shallow hard body lure has picked up good numbers of dolphin fish with the odd black marlin getting around. TAMING THE BEAST: Curtis Parker with a beast from Lake Prosperine. Picture: Contributed
