10 THINGS TO DO THIS WEEKEND

1. GALACTIC FEST

WHEN: Today, 9.30am-4pm WHERE: Toowoomba City Library COME and enjoy an all-ages celebratio­n of all things sci-fi and Star Wars.

Whether you choose the light side or the dark, you will be entertaine­d with a host of activities and events throughout the day, including lightsaber combat classes and demonstrat­ions, Jedi Challenge VR station, free face painting and craft, scavenger hunt and trivia and Galactic Markets, hosted by The Eclectic Emporium.

Family friendly cosplay is encouraged.

2. CRAFTY COFFEE

WHEN: Today, 6am-4pm

WHERE: Wyalla Plaza

WHERE else in Toowoomba can you grab a delicious coffee, some tasty treats and book in a craft workshop all in one place?

So You Can Craft Coffee Lounge is holding its grand opening celebratio­ns and everyone is welcome to come and check it out.

Try speciality coffee, organic tea, sweets, sundaes, burgers and plenty more.

3. OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT

WHEN: Today, 4pm-10pm

WHERE: Wine Drive Park, Wilsonton CARBAL Medical Services is hosting an outdoor family movie night featuring 2019’s Storm Boy and everyone is welcome.

There will be a free barbecue and hot dog stand.

Grab the family and bring a blanket or a pillow to sit on.

4. THE OWL’S APPRENTICE

WHEN: Today, 10.30am

WHERE: Empire Theatre

A YOUNG owl named Poot Poot has been sent to Owl School to learn to become wise.

He’s not like the other owls. He doesn’t know how to fly. He misses his family. He just wants to go home.

He knows the only way he can go home is by gaining “wisdom” but he doesn’t even know what that is. A shadow puppet workshop will take place after the show.

The cost of the workshop is $20 per participan­t and is suitable for ages sixplus and will run for about 90 minutes

5. SUNFLOWER SEASON

WHEN: Today, 7am-noon

WHERE: Toowoomba Farmers’ Market, Lindsay St

SOME sunshine to take home will be just some of the local produce on offer at the Toowoomba Farmers Market. Sunflowers grown at Clifton are expected to have a short season of around a month.

Locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables, ethically farmed meat and eggs, and artisan baking including sourdough bread, pastries, macarons, raw treats, and wonderful handmade preserves will also be available.

6. BEERS FOR BUSHFIRE RELIEF

WHEN: Today, noon-10pm

WHERE: Volcanic Brewery, 2/161 James St and 4 Brothers Brewing, 57 Brook St

THE local beer industry has been rallying in support of those impacted by bushfires and is coming together for a day of fundraiser­s today. Volcanic Brewery will donate 100% of proceeds from sales from one of the taps for the whole weekend. There will be a sausage sizzle running from 2pm.

Every person who buys a beer from the fundraisin­g tap will get a ticket into a draw for a prize.

Over at 4 Brothers Brewing, $1 from every beer sold plus there will donation boxes and raffles for merchandis­e and cartons of beer. A food truck will be on deck from 1pm. Volcanic’s event will finish at 9pm, while 4 Brothers will be open until 10pm.

7. MAD FOOD SCIENCE

WHEN: Tomorrow, 10am-11.30am

WHERE: Toowoomba City Library THE Mad Food Science Program is a fun and interactiv­e, 90-minute program designed to address today’s food culture in children, and kickstart behavioura­l change around food choices.

The program is a family event aimed at children aged 5 years and over, but parents will also get plenty of help with their fussy eaters and lunch box struggles.

8. DOGGO FAMILY PORTRAITS

WHEN: Tomorrow, 2.30pm-6.30pm

WHERE: Bar Wunder

THE Wildlife Rescue, Rehabilita­tion and Education Associatio­n of Murphy’s Creek has partnered with Bar Wunder for a barking mad fundraisin­g event. For $5, you can have a lovely family portrait with your pooch, with all funds raised going to the important rescue and rehabilita­tion work carried out by Trish and the associatio­n.

There will also be a collection jar on the day to donate and a Karma Keg supplied by Grand Ridge Brewery, where you pay what you feel for a beer, with all proceeds going directly to the bush fire appeal.

9. CINEMA UNDER THE STARS

WHEN: Tomorrow, 4.30pm

WHERE: Walton Stores

BRING a rug and settle in to watch family favourite, Toy Story 4 under the stars at Walton Stores.

Catch up with Woody and friends when they hit the road and discover just how big the world can be for a toy.

10. FRIENDLY CRICKET MATCH

WHEN: Tomorrow, noon-5.30pm

WHERE: USQ oval 4

GRAB a hat and some sunscreen and head down to the USQ ovals to support the Nepalese Cricket Club Toowoomba for its first home game of 2020 against the Himalayan Cricket Club Brisbane.

The weather is shaping up to be cool and overcast, so it will be perfect cricket-watching conditions.
