Pitching in for bushfire relief

TOOWOOMBA is again doing its bit for bushfire relief, with businesses across town chipping in time and effort to raise funds.

Pure Hair on Hume

Leading the charge is Pure Hair on Hume, which will be using haircuts to raise funds.

Tomorrow, the salon’s Hume St location will be donating 100 per cent of the money from its haircuts to bushfire charities.

“Everyone is distraught at the moment and it feels a bit inappropriate to be posting pretty photos of hair while people are struggling,” Pure Hair Toowoomba owner Taryn Hunter said.

“I have eight girls, a few from a different salon, giving their time for the cause.

“We hope to donate half of the money towards animal charities and the other half to the Salvation Army.”

Ms Hunter said there were still a few appointments for haircuts available, and those interested should phone 4564 9574 and book an appointment. She also added that the team would only be performing haircuts as part of the service.

Parkside Physio

Another business starting a 100 per cent donation drive for the bushfire effort is Toowoomba’s Parkside Physio.

On Monday, Parkside Physio physiotherapist Sabine Kehoe will be donating 100 per cent of the profits from her appointments to the local bushfire effort.

“Seeing our dense and extremely dry bushland in and around Toowoomba, I’m increasingly worried about a potential fire in and around our area,” Ms Kehoe said.

“I feel kind of helpless, and I don’t want to wait until a new disaster breaks loose.

“All profits will go to our local fire brigades, in order help protect our community.”

Ms Kehoe also ran the fundraiser last Monday, raising $1082.30 for charity.

“I could not believe the fantastic response,” she said.

“My day became very busy, and I raised $1082.30. I donated it to the Salvation Army.”

She thanked practice principal Bernard McGowan for helping her with the fundraiser.

You can book a physiotherapy appointment directly with Sabine at www.parksidephysio.com.au or on 07 4632 6233.

Hello Harry

Hello Harry’s Toowoomba donated $1 from every burger sold yesterday to the RFS and WIRES, which directed the funds to the national bushfire appeal.

“Like many Australians, we watch with despair at what is happening to communities affected by the bushfires. This was something that our franchise partners and staff were really keen to support and play a small role to (help) those in need,” Hello Harry director Rob McCue said.

All 12 stores across Australia will donate funds to the bushfire relief effort.
