RUGBY LEAGUE: Anticipation continues to build ahead of what is shaping up as the biggest TRL All Stars event to date.

With two senior men’s games on the cards, the Southwest Queensland Emus have named extended squads for the February 29 fixtures at Clive Berghofer Stadium.

The Emus features a host of big names such as Cory and David McGrady, Braydon Wilson and Dwayne Duncan.

The first ever Country Emus side incorporates a number of players from further west, as well as a few from the TRL to strengthen the ranks.

President Gary Halliday said excitement was building as the club welcomes greater involvement from more remote areas.

“There’s a fair bit of excitement in regards to the squads and we’re looking at extending them by a further two or three players,” Halliday said.

“We’re organising training venues at the moment and will have a session out in St George on February 15.

“The football out west is limited. They play a full season but the representative opportunities are scarce, so it’s nice to give them a good start to the pre-season.”

Further incentive will be on the line next month, with a squad chosen from the fixtures to take part in the inaugural Frank Fisher Cup in Cherbourg.

“The boys so far are loving the challenge, and some have started their pre-season early,” Halliday said.

“It gives them more incentive to play well with the first ever Frank Fisher Cup the following week.”
