Scattered rainfall and heat forecast
TOOWOOMBA Airport recorded 51mm of rain over the past seven days, and the Bureau of Meteorology has predicted more to come this week.
Meteorologist Peter Markworth said there were plenty of chances for rain over the coming week, with Tuesday having the highest possibility at 60 per cent chance of rainfall between 1-5mm.
“Those showers and storms that have been moving across should give a little bit of rain, getting into the double digits hopefully,” Mr Markworth said. “It’s going to be persistent over the Toowoomba area.
“Mostly below 5mm is the possible rainfall each day, but if you are caught under a thunderstorm it could be a little bit higher, but we expect those will be isolated.”
Mr Markworth said Toowoomba could expect above average temperatures in the coming week, with increased humidity.
“We are seeing heatwave conditions over southeast Queensland with temperatures being 3-5 degrees above average in the next few days,” he said.
“Right now (humidity) is 68 per cent. You can expect 80 per cent humidity in the evening and it looks like between 40-50 per cent humidity over the coming days.
“Minimum temperatures are a lot higher with increased moisture in the air, it acts to keep the temperatures quite high, not allowing the heat to really escape when you’d normally see overnight temperatures go right down.”
Toowoomba is likely to see temperatures in the low 30s over the next week, reaching tops of 33 degrees.
