Music students’ talents are noted
THREE passionate Toowoomba Grammar School students have achieved their Associate Diploma in Music, and two are set to study at the Conservatorium of Music.
Cameron Lumsden, Xavier Schubert and Julian Lachmund all achieved their AMusA last year. Cameron plays classical piano, Xavier plays alto saxophone, and Julian plays the violin.
Cameron and Xavier have since graduated from high school, while Julian will complete Year 12 this year.
Cameron achieved a distinction on his exam, which is the highest grade you can receive. He will be studying classical piano at the Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane this year, joined by his peer Lachlan Seawright, who will be studying Creative Music Technology.
Both boys had to go through a rigorous audtion process in order to secure their places at the conservatorium. Cameron said he was very excited when he found out he had got in.
“I had just finished my last exam for exam block and I got the email,” he said.
“I was in the car and got really excited and called my friend straight away.”
He hopes to use his degree to teach the next generation.
“I think there is a lot of potential in music teaching and the way it can be done and the way it can inspire kids and make it enjoyabke for everyone,” he said.
Lachlan hopes to become a sound engineer or a producer when he finishes his studies.
“It’s a lot of collaboration and working together with other musicians which will be awesome,” Lachlan said. “Working with other people who are interested in the same stuff. “
Julian hopes to get into the Conservatorium of Music once he finishes Year 12, or study teaching at the University of Queenslnd.
