Hope Horizons turns two

WHEN Toowoomba woman Bronwyn Jones started receiving chemotherapy to treat breast cancer, she turned to Toowoomba’s Cancer Wellness Centre Hope Horizons for support.
The centre celebrated its second anniversary at a morning tea yesterday, with close to 50 staff and clients attending.
Having opened in 2018, Hope Horizons is a charity that helps people with cancer access free holistic services and support.
Ms Jones learnt about the charity through friends and was amazed by the services on offer.
“Once I started all my treatment, I felt like I needed to find somewhere I belonged,” Ms Jones said.
“I decided to come try some things that I would never have done previously.
“It’s such a warm and receptive environment where you can come and people know your name.”
She said the holistic treatments had given her a boost.
“(Wednesday) night I did gong meditation, I’ve never tried that before, and I’ve also had reflexology,” she said.
“It’s good for your soul and you get to meet people in the same boat as you.
“Having cancer is really expensive, so to come here where the services are of nocost to the person with cancer, it’s such a relief.”
Hope Horizons vice president Peter Turnbull said the charity had accomplished a lot in its two years of operation.
“It’s a milestone for us and it’s gone so quickly - we’ve been swept off our feet a little bit knowing that we have been open for two years,” Mr
Turnbull said.
“It’s gratifying to see it is working which establishes, in my mind, that it’s needed.
“It’s growing all the time and we hope it’s putting something back (into the community).”
Tracey Lutton from Complete
Body Health and Fitness gave a speech at the milestone event, and clients and staff enjoyed some birthday cake.
