CRICKET: Toowoomba’s Georgia Voll has began her first-class cricket career in emphatic style.

Making her debut for the Queensland Fire in their 50over match against Victoria at Allan Border Field yesterday, the 16-year-old made an immediate impact.

Getting her chance to bowl midway through the innings, Voll struck through in the 26th over with just her fifth ball.

She forced Victorian captain Molly Strano into a poor shot to claim her first scalp, before backing it up in her next over with the removal of Alana King, who was out caught behind.

Voll finished her memorable debut with figures of 2/11 from three overs.

As they looked to chase down Victoria’s total of 181, the all-rounder was sent in as an opener alongside Kirby Short.

Voll was dismissed for three runs from six balls.

INDIGENOUS SIDE FALLS AT FINAL HURDLE

After battling their way through to the decider of the National Indigenous Cricket Championships in Alice Springs, Queensland went down in the decider against New South Wales.

Queensland booked their place in the final courtesy of a strong showing in the preliminary stages.

They won four of their six pool games, with their fixture against Northern Territory washed out, to finish second behind NSW on run rate.

Their preliminary final against Victoria was also washed out, meaning the second-placed side progressed to the decider.

Featuring Toowoomba’s Kieren Gibbs, Daley Martin and Sam Doggett, Queensland was only able to muster 46 from their innings.

New South Wales was tested in its chase of the small total, dropping five wickets along the way, before taking victory with more than five overs remaining.

Martin was exceptional with the ball, finishing with figures of 2/5 and a maiden from his four overs.

He removed both openers to give his team the faintest of hopes.
