Presenter heads off air after 20-year stint
AFTER two decades at Southern Cross Austereo’s Hit FM South Queensland, radio personality Hamish Carter has decided to hang up his headphones and embark on a new journey.
Mr Carter announced his departure from the station during his morning show last week.
“I’ve pulled the pin on doing breakfast radio or radio in general,” Mr Carter said during the broadcast.
“At the beginning of every year I ask myself can I get through another year of breakfast radio, and this year I asked that question and unfortunately the answer was no.”
Mr Carter has been running the breakfast show timeslot alone since the departure of his co-host Paris Humphrey in November.
He said he would cherish his memories from his time on the show.
“Twenty years and so many memories; from the outrageous, like abseiling down the outside of Grand Central wearing a tutu, covering myself in chocolate and letting dogs lick it off, to riding 2000km on a bike for charity,” he said.
“I have loved the great experiences that working in radio has given me, and I will forever be thankful for the chance to do things that I would never have a chance to do in any other profession.”
In a career switch-up, he is now joining the Toowoomba Turf Club team at Clifford Park.

chief executive officer Lizzy King, who once co-hosted the breakfast show alongside Mr Carter, said the club was excited to secure his services.
“Hamish will join us as our business development manager, as well as heading up our media and marketing,” Ms King said.
“He is well known and loved in Toowoomba and across southeast Queensland, so it’s great to have him join our dynamic team.”
Mr Carter said he was excited about the new challenge – and the new work timeslot.
“I’ve never been home in the morning for my family, I’ve always gone to work hours before anyone even gets up, so it will be nice to experience a new routine to family life,” Mr Carter said.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge and working with the Clifford Park team.
“I’ll experience Weetwood from a very different perspective now as staff and not a guest.”
Mr Carter officially begins at Clifford Park next month, with his last day at Hit FM set to be February 28.
A replacement for Mr Carter will be announced by Southern Cross Austereo shortly.
