A TOOWOOMBA real estate agent and former nurse has entered the council election race, envisioning a liveable and prosperous region.

Kirsten Smolenski, who moved to the Garden City in the early 1990s as a nurse and later started a building company with her husband Paul, has announced her candidacy for the council.

Mrs Smolenski said her platform would focus on improving water security and infrastructure, explore opportunities to make the surrounding towns more prosperous, and promote an inclusive community.

“It is with my comprehensive understanding of our region, broad experience within professional management and motivation to enhance the attributes of our surrounds, that I believe I would be able to serve as a resourceful member of our local government,” she said on her Facebook page.

“As a member of the Toowoomba Regional Council, I would endeavour to understand the extensive and diverse range of issues within our region, ultimately striving to form a united and strong community where all of its members are represented.

“In 1998, my husband and I commenced our building company and have since built and renovated many residential properties all over the region.

“I understand the enormous importance of town planning and liveability issues in this region and have been able to evaluate the consequences with each change.”

Mrs Smolenski said she would still ensure the basics of the council were done well, pointing to waste management and road improvement.

She added that she was not affiliated with a political party, and promised full transparency with all actions if elected.
