Riders ready for racing
Elite field prepares for Australian Championships
Bond said.
“The field of riders is world-class.
“We have state and national champions in action and riders that have competed in, and won on, the international stage.
“Even the junior riders are class – they’ve got all the skills and speed and will be exciting to watch.”
Recent rain has helped the track preparation along immensely and Bond expects the field to take full advantage of the conditions.
“The track is looking fantastic,” Bond said.
“It (the track) is not fast but they will make it fast.
“It’s technical with a lot of turns and corners but the skill of these riders will really shine through. We’ve thrown in a few jumps and hazards to test them, but the riders are smooth and controlled, they will pick out the best lines and fly around the track.
“It’s going to be a fantastic weekend of racing.”
MOTORSPORT: Race fans will be in the thick of the Australian Off-Road Championship action this weekend.
Toowoomba Motorcycle Club secretary Nathan Bond said the Meringandan track has been designed with spectators in mind.
“Traditionally enduro races are out in the scrub and the fans only catch glimpses here and there of the action,” Bond said.
“We’ve designed this track with fans in mind though – giving them plenty of vantage points.
“One of the main fan areas is quite close to the track giving everyone an up close view of the action.
“Last year we took on a round of the series with a little over six weeks notice to prepare and it was a big success.
“We received a lot of positive feedback from everyone involved and we set ourselves the task of bettering that mark this time round and I believe we will do that.”
Running in conjunction with the Queensland titles, the first round of the Australiawide series will bring some of the country’s best riders to the region.
“More than 250 riders have nominated which is a record,”
