Huge boost for Lifeline

LIFELINE Darling Downs will be able to help even more people in western Queensland suffering from drought and with mental health issues, thanks to a generous $10,000 donation.

CS Energy, which owns the Kogan Creek power station at Brigalow near Chinchilla, gave the funding to Lifeline CEO Derek Tuffield in Toowoomba yesterday.

Mr Tuffield said the funding was vital at a time when the organisation was receiving even more requests for support.

“It’s a huge difference for our operating requirements to assist in our emergency relief, our rural work at the moment that is very extensive, and also for basically increasing service delivery in the southwest,” he said.

“Fundraising is very competitive and under a lot of demand at the moment, so raising funds so you deliver vital services on the front line, where it’s most needed, becomes a big challenge for all CEOs at the moment.

“So this really helps us to provide food packages, helps us provide staff to work in rural and remote areas, and it has a wider impact on the broader communities.”

CS Energy CEO Andrew Bills said the company, which employs more than 100 people at the station, shared many values with Lifeline.

“We have a community support program, and we do that annually, and we also do philanthropic donations,” he said.

“We chose Lifeline because they’re on the front lines of the Western Downs, and they provide crisis support and suicide prevention to people in need.”

Mr Bills said the private sector had a role to play in supporting community organisations.
