Mustangs determined to make cup dream reality

HAVING OUR REGION REPRESENTED IN QUEENSLAND’S TOP COMPETITION AGAIN HAS BEEN A DREAM AND TALKED ABOUT FOR THE PAST DECADE.

THE CHRONICLE is introducing a behind the scenes look at the Western Mustangs through a new column written by key stakeholders within the club.

The weekly column will offer an insight into all that is happening across the club and the people involved.

Here’s the first edition.

LEAGUE: It’s shaping up to be a big year for the Western Mustangs in 2020.

Not only do we have strong squads in the under-18s and U20s which gives us reason for optimism ahead of the season, but we’re also determined to earn a place in the Intrust Super Cup.

Preparations for our 2020 Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup and Hastings Deering Colts seasons have been underway since November.

Numbers for our U18 and U20 squads at training have been strong throughout the pre-season and that shows the commitment of the players.

They got out on the field for the first trial games of the year last weekend and there were plenty of promising signs.

The U18s are back in action this weekend when they take on Wynnum-Manly.

Results in trial games don’t win you premierships, but they can be important in fine-tuning a successful game plan and developing a winning culture.

There are some talented and dedicated people on board at the Mustangs from across south west Queensland and we’re determined to make 2020 a watershed year for our fledgling club.

Without a doubt, getting into the ISC is the big goal for the year.

Having our region represented in Queensland’s top competition again has been a dream and talked about for the past decade.

It’s time to make that happen and the Mustangs board, coaches, players and volunteers are all determined to achieve this widely held goal.

A lot goes into proving we are capable of entering the ISC.

We as a club are working on everything we can to satisfy all of the criteria.
