Blockbuster musical hits Toowoomba stage

-

MAMMA Mia is the name of the game at the Empire Theatre with the blockbuster ABBA jukebox musical opening to audiences next week.

On stage from March 5-15, Mamma Mia tells the hilarious heartwarming story of a young woman’s search for her birth father before her wedding, which brings three men from her mother’s past back to the

Greek island they last visited

Director James Shaw said Mamma Mia was still an incredibly popular musical 20 years after it first came to the stage.

“Mamma Mia has clearly resonated with people around the world; it’s a feel good story loved by so many people,” Mr Shaw said.

“This show is full of real relationships that everyone can identify with, mothers and daughters, fathers and friends and I think that is the key to its success.”

Mr Shaw said Mamma Mia’s incredible story was combined with 22 of ABBA’s greatest hits and a lot of laughs.

“The show finishes with a bang and the finale was actually one of the first numbers the cast learnt,” he said.

“It’s the ultimate ABBA party and I can’t wait for everyone to jump up and party along with the cast.”

The Empire Theatre’s production of Mamma Mia stars Diana Holt as Donna and Sophie Volp as Sophie.

Ms Holt and Ms Volp are joined on stage by an incredible line-up of local performers including Michael Escober as Sam Carmichael, Trent Sellars as Harry Bright, Tristan James as Bill Austin, James Taylor as Sky, Vicki Bravery as Tanya, Gayle Dixon as Rosie, Sophie Kleinschmidt as Lisa, Kate Hudson-James as Ali, Nicholas Joy as Pepper, and Joshua Rognoni as Eddie, as well as an exceptional ensemble and band of backstage singers.

The production of Mamma Mia is proudly presented by Living Gems Lifestyle Resorts.

An additional performance on Thursday March 12 has recently gone on sale due to popular demand.
