AFTER six months of construction, The Glennie School’s new program pool is officially open, offering classes for all ages.

The specially designed pool, located beside the school’s existing pool within the Clive Berghofer Sports Centre, will offer classes for all ages from swimming and water safety lessons, baby and toddler swimming, through to water walking for those who may be elderly or injured.

Glennie Aquatics and Clive Berghofer Sports Centre manager, Shannon Townsend, said the classes offered by Glennie Aquatics were open to the general public.

“‘We welcome everyone to come and join us in the pool,” Ms Townsend said.

“Confidence and safety in the water is an invaluable skill to have, and our fully qualified staff are committed to sharing their skills with members of our wider community.

‘In the near future, we will be offering pre-natal aqua sessions and water-based recovery sessions for athletes.”

The Glennie School principal Peter Crawley said the program pool was an asset to the community.

“It rounds off our community,” Mr Crawley said.

“We have the pool here, we have the gymnasium, and in sporting facilities this now gives us a wonderful way of connecting with the very young and also some of the older people who want to come and do some exercise activities.

“The school community is about people, and this just rounds off the age groups.”

Classes have already taken place at the new pool, which Mr Crawley said was exciting.

“It’s vindicating,” he said. “You make the commitment of spending this money, and then you see it being used, and you simply feel good about that original decision.

“It was an idea that people took to naturally, they said it was clearly a facility that would be of great benefit to the community and it seems to have gone ahead incredibly smoothly.”
