Bushrangers chase vital victory
LAWN BOWLS: Bushrangers head into this weekend’s fixtures knowing a win is vital.
Away to Algester All Stars at the weekend, North Toowoomba let a good opportunity to secure another victory slip away late in the encounter.
Trailing by just three with a few ends remaining the club eventually lost 70-56 (2-1 rinks).
Backing up their recent good form, Gavin Bradford’s team secured a 23-17 win while Robbie Hammond’s side fell 28-18 after going for broke on the final end.
Jason Grundon’s team showed glimpses of potential before losing 25-15.
The result means a win over last-placed Victoria Point Magpies is vital this weekend.
Currently sitting in 10th place in the 12-team competition, the Bushrangers could force their way into 8th with a win over Magpies.
Such is the closeness of the competition, apart from the leaders Enoggera Eagles, only four points separate six teams in the charge to the finals.
This weekend’s clash is also the last chance to see the Bushrangers in action at home, with action underway from 3.30pm this Saturday.
The 2020 Premier League Queensland series will wrap up the following weekend when the Bushrangers have a double-header on the road, playing the Kawana Thunder and the Tweed Heads Ospreys.
A tenth place or better finish for the Bushrangers would guarantee their PLQ survival.
Finishing in the bottom two would force them into a playoff for survival.
A-grade well beaten
And after a blazing double the previous weekend the Bushrangers A-grade were beaten soundly 92-71 by All Stars.
After showing promise early, the Bushrangers couldn’t match it with the All Stars however Len Rasmussen’s team built on their season record with a 21-13 win.
Despite defeat the Bushrangers still have a chance of securing a finals berth.
A win on Saturday will send them up another rung on the ladder, so the final two rounds will be crucial to their fortunes.
