Toowoomba downed by Lockyer in rep fixtures
CRICKET: Toowoomba’s representative sides endured a tough day of shield cricket at the weekend.
Competing in postponed fixtures of the Mitchell and Davis Shield at Captain Cook Reserve, the home sides were defeated in both.
In the Davis Shield, Lockyer had first opportunity with the bat, and were able to post a handy score of 209.
Alex Perkins (3/35), Michael Evans (2/29) and Ash Singh (2/43) were the pick of the bowlers for Toowoomba.
In response, a stunning knock from Matt Nunn (60*) along with steady runs from Dan Robinson (32), Sandin Drahiem (30) and Marx Aluguvelli (26) helped the home side to a strong position.
Ultimately they weren’t able to get over the line, being dismissed for 186 with five overs to spare.
The Mitchell Shield was a more one-sided contest, with Lockyer prevailing by 97 runs.
The visitors batted first and were restricted to 188, with Jack Carter (3/20), Andre Odendaal (3/24) and Tom Hughes (3/35) leading the way.
In response, Toowoomba was only able to muster 91 runs after being bowled out inside 29 overs.
James Bidgood’s 30 was the shining light in a tough day at the office.
FIELDS GUIDES NEXT GENERATION
Toowoomba product and former Australian captain Jodie Fields was on hand to present Emerald’s Bonnie Berry and Bundaberg Wave’s Lucy Hamilton as the latest recipients of the Jodie Fields Young Cricketer Development Scholarship.
“I’m incredibly grateful for this support to be able to keep the scholarship going and to encourage more young girls on their journey,” Fields said.
“Having grown up in Toowoomba and travelled extensively throughout Queensland during my cricket career, I am acutely aware of the challenges facing regional and rural communities. These include equitable access to quality health and education opportunities, particularly for young women and girls.”
