Mayoral candidate to be ‘transparent’

-

THE newest mayoral candidate to go up against incumbent Paul Antonio has promised a more transparent approach to council operations and processes.

Save Mount Lofty group secretary and former lawyer Chris Meibusch announced his candidacy for mayor yesterday, becoming the third person to vie for the spot at the March 28 election.

Mr Meibusch, who helped organise the grassroots effort against the controversial Defence Housing Australia subdivision proposal in Mount Lofty, said his entire platform would be based around a more open process.

“I think we need to have a change in focus on the council to total transparency in dealing with the public,” he said.

“Transparency is a concept and an issue that goes across the board – that way, the system will work to recognise all interests in the community.”

Mr Meibusch made the announcement on the 2000member strong Save Mount Lofty Facebook group page, which has now been renamed to support his campaign for mayor.

The change earned some detractors, but Mr Meibusch said the members had been mostly supportive of his bid.

“The members don’t just want to have lots of (Facebook) pages, and that page is an amazing resource of documents and images,” he said.

While he hasn’t been endorsed, Mr Meibusch said he was proud to acknowledge his membership of the Australian Labor Party.

Mr Meibusch said he would roll out more of his platform in the coming days.
