Taylor running for council spot again

-

DEPUTY Mayor Carol Taylor has revealed her political future, saying she would stand for one more term.

The popular councillor told

The Chronicle she would again run for a position, placing her nomination on Monday.

Cr Taylor said the tragic death of her husband Roger in January played a big role in her decision to run again, again thanking the community for its support through the ordeal.

“It has been a factor – I’m very saddened because he was my biggest supporter and such a great rock for me,” she said.

“The community support has been amazing (through this).

“Roger loved the community, and there’s no higher honour then serving in local government.”

Cr Taylor said she did weigh up running against Paul Antonio for the mayorship, but ultimately felt she could benefit the community as a councillor again.

“I realised recently how much I enjoyed making a difference in the community,” she said.

“I did consider (running for mayor), but with what happened to me, it’s been difficult.

“I’m well known in the community, (but) I never assume anything, I’m just asking for support from people in the community again.”

She said a priority if re-elected would be renewing the council’s ageing infrastructure.

“I hope to be the steady voice of experience, and I hope I have a lot to offer still,” Cr Taylor said.

“Infrastructure is my passion – it provides jobs and it’s the thing that matters the most for people, whether they know it or not.”
