A first quarter explosion has fired the Dragons to the top of the Toowoomba Basketball League ladder.

David Werth had 21 of his 25 points in the first term, as they picked up their secondconsecutive win, courtesy of a crushing 108-77 defeat of Toowoomba City Lightning.

Point guard Daniel Sims picked up where Werth left off, going on to topscore with 31 points, giving him back-toback 30+ point games.

Jason Spurgin and Jason

Ebneter had 26 points each in a tough night at the office for the Lightning.

Coach Kim Wilson paid homage to the efforts of Werth and Sims in laying the platform.

“David couldn’t miss. Once he made a few shots his confidence went through the roof,” Wilson said.

“We were able to scout them pretty well, and one of our main focuses was to be aggressive defensively.

“Daniel is just a great leader. He has improved every week and was able to find the open guy, he didn’t play selfish at all.

“To finish with five guys in double figures is another positive. After a shaky start, we’ve been able to have a few big wins and have the best for-and-against.”

The A Team bounced back from a pair of defeats to get back into the winner’s circle after edging out the Breakers 89-80.

Joe Johnson again led the way with 22 points, with Paul Aleer and Jacob Holt contributing 19 apiece to guide The A Team to victory.

Josh Allen had another solid outing with 18 points, closely followed on 14 by Kobi Hinch and the returning Stephen Kluck.

The A Team led by as much as 13 early on, before the Breakers managed to narrow the gap to just one point midway through the second quarter.

That would be as close as they would get however, with The A Team leading from start to finish to record their second win of the season.

In the women’s division, the Crusaders maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 58-40 defeat of The Aces.

A balanced scoring effort saw Morgan Prentice (20 pts), Kaila Gabriel (12 pts) and

Tracey Twidale (11 pts) lead the way.

For The Aces, it was all Despena Dickerson, with her 26 points keeping them in the contest.

The Chiefs also kept their perfect start to the season alive with a 55-29 smashing of Team Mamba on the back of Vanessa Weber’s 20 points.
