$100k boost to festivals

-

TWO Toowoomba arts festivals have scored a funding boost to the tune of more than $100,000.

The State Government has allocated $114,492 to the Curious Arts Festival and the Tale Spin: Stories Festival, as part of the Queensland Arts Showcase Program.

Curious Arts Festival will receive $60,000 to present a diverse program of comedy, dance, music, circus, film and family entertainment.

Festival co-director Ruth Atkinson said the funding boosted Toowoomba business confidence in the event, helping it increase sponsorship and support from the community.

“With the funding support from Arts Queensland, Toowoomba’s Curious Arts Festival 2020 is able to program at least 30 emerging and established Queensland performing artists and commission an exciting new dance/technology work,” Ms Atkinson said.

Toowoomba Regional Libraries will receive $54,492 to celebrate stories and storytellers with the Tale Spin: Stories Festival.

Young people’s librarian Angela Morgan said the festival would activate the literary and artistic talents in the Toowoomba region.

“Tale Spin would not be possible without the Queensland Arts Showcase Program grant, which has enabled the festival to be diverse, accessible and dynamic in its offerings,” Ms Morgan said.

Arts Minister Leeanne Enoch said the program funded diverse arts and cultural experiences across the state and supported stories told through visual and performing arts.
