City’s worst roads named by drivers

-

ANZAC Ave and James St have ranked among the worst roads in Toowoomba, according to a red spot survey conducted by RACQ.

RACQ spokesman Paul Turner said intersections along Ruthven Street, Campbell Street, Anzac Ave, James Street and Drayton Road were the most troublesome locations as identified by Toowoomba residents.

“We asked Queensland drivers to name and shame the most congested locations as they’re in the best position to help us pinpoint the worst roads,” Mr Turner said.

“The opening of the Toowoomba Bypass has reduced the amount of traffic in Toowoomba CBD but it seems motorists are still fed up with congestion at intersections along a number of streets within the city.

“Most drivers have called for signal changes or complete upgrades to reduce delays.

“The results really do quantify the problems we often hear about and demonstrate the need for continuous improvement.”

RACQ completed the survey as local and state elections loom.

Mr Turner said the club would use the results from the survey to lobby governments for funding and improvements, and get commitments before Queenslanders headed to the polls.

“More than 2700 nominations came in from across Queensland, so it’s clear congestion is an issue that really grinds our gears. It costs us time and lost productivity, and that’s why we need to address it now,” he said.

“As several government elections approach in the year ahead, we’ll use this information to lobby politicians and candidates to ensure Queensland’s priorities are also theirs.”

Last year the service named 23 Toowoomba roads with the worst congestion.

The intersection of the Warrego Hwy and Cohoe St, and the Warrego Hwy and Kitchener sts were identified as the city’s worst spots for delay, adding up to 15 and 12 minutes to a trip respectively.
