Two new facilities to boost Christian school

-

AFTER months of construction, Toowoomba Christian College has unveiled two new, state-of-the-art learning rooms.

The college, joined by special guests, officially opened both its technology centre and high school arts room last Friday.

Both facilities provide students with purpose-built learning spaces to further their development in a range of areas including woodwork, engineering, robotics, graphics, and visual arts.

TCC principal Richard Brown said the facilities, which had been in development since 2018, were designed as spaces that would inspire students to create and innovate.

“We believe that the ability to create and innovate are two critical skills for 21st century students to develop, in order to better prepare them for further study and careers,” Mr Brown said.

He said the visual arts room also featured a ceiling mural representing Italian artist Michelangelo’s famous piece, The Creation of Adam, from the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

“These new college facilities are not just driven by function, they also incorporate design features such as our beautiful ceiling mural that help create an environment that provokes awe and discovery, as well as creative vision,” Mr Brown said.

“These new facilities represent an important part of TCC’s education vision, which is to ensure that the talents and skills of all our students are valued, and students are provided with appropriate spaces to develop and flourish.”

Special guest Member for Ipswich Jim Madden said the school’s new facilities reflected TCC’s commitment to preparing students for their life after school, and for leadership.

“Developing skills for coding skills and STEM subjects are so important in the digital economy students face on leaving school,” Mr Madden said.

“In a nutshell, these new facilities, which have been in use since term two 2019 are helping students here to excel.

“It’s great to see the school developing in such a practical, stylish and tasteful way.”
