Council facilities still open
FACILITIES run by the Toowoomba Regional Council will remain open and continue to operate as usual at this stage, pending advice from the Australian and Queensland Governments.
TRC CEO Brian Pidgeon said the decision was based on advice provided by the government and community expectations.
“At this point, our gyms, pools, libraries, cultural centres and facilities will remain open and available for community use,” Mr Pidgeon said.
“In saying this, we recognise how rapidly the situation is evolving and will be reviewing the decision to keep these facilities open on a day-by-day basis.”
Mr Pidgeon said while facilities would remain open, some of the programs such as library activities, would be cancelled temporarily.
“We’ve already seen a reduction in volunteers and participant numbers at these programs and our staff will continue to monitor the evolving situation,” he said.
“Council will communicate any changes to programs via the council’s website.
“During this unprecedented event, it’s crucial we abide by the advice given to us by the State and Federal Governments.”
Mr Pidgeon said the health and wellbeing of the community was the council’s top priority.
“As such, we have increased cleaning and hygiene services at all our public facilities and continue to ask our residents to always follow hygiene guidelines whether at home or attending public places,” he said.
